Summary : Sleep Medicine is a field that attracts physicians from a variety of clinical backgrounds. As a result, the majority of sleep specialists who interpret sleep studies (PSG) do not have specialized training in neurophysiology and electroencephalography (EEG) interpretation. Given this and the fact that PSGs usually are run at a third of the speed of EEGs and that they usually have a limited array of electrodes, waveforms frequently appear different on the PSGs compared to the EEGs. This can lead to challenges interpreting certain unusual looking activity that may or may not be pathological. This Atlas of Electroencephalograpy in Sleep Medicine is extensively illustrated and provides an array of examples of normal waveforms commonly seen on PSG, in addition to normal variants, epileptiform and non-epileptiform abnormalities and common artifacts. This resource is divided into five main sections with a range of topics and chapters per section. The sections cover Normal Sleep Stages; Normal Variants; Epileptiform Abnormalities; Non-epileptiform Abnormalities; and Artifacts. Each example includes a brief description of each EEG together with its clinical significance, if any. Setting the book apart from others in the field is the following feature: Each EEG discussed consists of three views of the same page -- one at a full EEG montage with 30mm/sec paper speed, the same montage at 10mm/sec (PSG speed) and a third showing the same thing at 10 mm/sec, but with the abbreviated PSG montage. Unique and the first resource of its kind in sleep medicine, the Atlas of Electroencephalograpy in Sleep Medicine will greatly assist those physicians and sleep specialists who read PSGs to identify common and unusual waveforms on EEG as they may appear during a sleep study and serve as a reference for them in that capacity.

Summary : Written for sleep technologists, Clinical Atlas of Polysomnography provides basic information regarding normal sleep, sleep disorders, and electrophysiology that is outside of the scope of the AASM manual (AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events). It aims to act as a guide through the fundamental aspects of, for example, types of overnight sleep study, establishing a sleep laboratory, preparing the patient for a sleep evaluation study, placement of electrodes and leads, and the scientific aspects of such placement, i.e., why they are placed at that particular position. This information will be very useful in those parts of the globe where formal training in sleep technology is not yet available. Many further chapters focus on depicting real-time illustrations of sleep data as captured in the sleep laboratory and the scoring of recording data. Information regarding common montages, artifacts, and troubleshooting in the sleep laboratory will facilitate the reader’s journey as a trainee sleep technologist. While scoring sleep recordings, the "When you score the data" histogram can provide a great deal of useful information, and this has been explained in detail in this book. Most importantly, it is prudent to be able to write reports that are both informative and easy to understand by physicians who do not have advanced knowledge of sleep medicine. A chapter has been dedicated to explaining this in detail. Lastly, the authors have provided ready-made forms, questionnaires, and documents that can either be used as they are or with some modifications. This up-to-date and comprehensive volume will be an invaluable guide for technicians and physicians who wish to practice sleep medicine and will be useful for sleep technology and physician training programs. The volume is intended to complement, not be a substitute for, the AASM scoring manual, as many areas that are covered in the manual are not covered here.

Summary : Though sleep occupies more than one third of our lives, sleep disorders did not gain full recognition, or extensive evaluation and treatment by medical practitioners until the early 1980s. Initiated by the intense investigation associated with rapid eye movement (REM) sleep in the early 1950s, and later with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, the explosion in the early 1970s of modern sleep medicine research remained largely focused on adults, with few clinicians specifically addressing pediatrics. Yet children are clearly quite different from adults in terms of sleep pattern, and advances in research and clinical practice in the last quarter of the 20th century finally spawned the subspeciality of pediatric sleep medicine. Dr. Sheldon and his colleagues have assembled an invaluable guide for this relatively new field, offering discussions of sleep laboratory recording montages, monitoring and pneumography, pediatric sleep disorder management strategies, and normal and abnormal polysomnographic comparisons in infants and children. Clinicians will now have at their disposal an impressive array of clinical data and observations to add to their diagnositic acumen for sleep-related disorders in children.

Summary : NEW EDITION!!Well... it seems that these animals don't want to take their medicine! But step by step, each one discovers that taking medicine is very important for the animals, as well as for the children!A funny way to learn and a funny way to teach. As everyone knows how difficult it can be to explain to young children how important it is to take medicine...---THE BOOK OF THE ANIMALS:FUN LEARNING FOR CHILDREN AND PARENTSWhat are certainly the most occurring moments in a parent's life? When their child doesn't want to wash, eat, sleep, go to school, share, take medicine, get vaccinated... And what can a parent answer to these refusals? The successful "Book of The Animals" bilingual children's books series was created with the aim to help both parents and children to discover the benefits of washing, eating, sleeping, going to school, sharing, taking medicine, getting vaccinated... in a fun as well as educational manner. Since the books are also bilingual, parents will enjoy the teaching and the interactivity they can gain from reading them with their children.THE AUDIENCEThe books are geared towards children aged 2-5, before elementary/primary school. They will likely be bilingual children whose parents want to encourage the learning of their two current languages. They will also be children whose parents want to teach a language at a young age. Some teachers have also been using the books of the series as a way to teach a second language to children, with themes easy for them to both understand and memorise.THE CURRENT BOOKSThere are currently seven books in the series. Each episode brings on new animals, new words, new situations and new stories.- Ep.1. "These Animals... Don't Want to Wash!" (2008)- Ep.2. "These Animals... Don't Want to Eat!" (2009)- Ep.3. "These Animals... Don't Want to Sleep!" (2010)- Ep.4. "These Animals... Don't Want to Go to School!" (2011)- Ep.5. "These Animals... Don't Want to Share!" (2011)- Ep.6. "These Animals... Don't Want to Take their Medicine!" (2012)- Ep.7. "These Animals... Don't Want to Get Vaccinated!" (2012)The books are all available in either bilingual or monolingual versions:- Bilingual versions: English-French, English-Portuguese, English-Italian, English-Spanish, English-Swedish, English-Creole, English-Japanese...More versions still to come!Check out the official website: www.TheBookOfTheAnimals.comREVIEW"The Book of the Animals is a planned series of illustrated books for young children. [...] These delightful books tell the story of what happens when the animals in the stories, like many young children, don't want to eat and don't want to wash...The books are very suitable both for reading to young children and for older children to use to learn to read in both languages. They might even persuade them to wash and eat their dinner! The repetitive structure is supportive of children learning new words and the illustrations work well alongside the text to help understanding of unfamiliar words.I can easily imagine young children demanding repeat readings and enjoying learning the text by heart as many children do with favourite stories. Children learning to make up and write their own stories might well want to write a personalised version, using the structure as a prop.I think the stories would work well both in the home and in the classroom."(Review published in The Cass School of Education, by Dr Raymonde Sneddon, Research Fellow for "The Cass School of Education" at the University of East London, and Honorary Research Fellow of Birkbeck College, in the Department of Applied Linguistics)SUPPORT'The Book of The Animals' series is supported & recommended by ABRIR UK, a Brazilian Association for Educational Projects in the United Kingdom. www.Abrir.org.ukOfficial website: TheBookOfTheAnimals.com

Summary : Cancer sucks, death sucks even more. But we humans don’t have the power to stop either of them from messing with our lives. They enter our lives whenever and wherever they choose to. Cancer is so common that each one of us have known someone who has dealt with the disease; some of us have lost a loved one to cancer. Common does not always mean simple, and it also does not mean we know everything about it. The diagnosis of cancer, regardless of the disease’s curability, is almost always nerve-wracking, even for healthcare providers like the main character of this book who is a veteran nurse. This book is written in first person; the subject is a middle aged woman who had been separated from her boyfriend some thirty years ago and then after three decades when she searches for an oncologist for treatment of an aggressive cancer that she was recently diagnosed, she finds her ex-boyfriend’s name and decides to see him. That brings back the memory of their past together, and she starts going though her old diary she had written some thirty years in the past. Part of the story is set in Nepal (from the diary) and the other part is set in the USA ( this takes place after her cancer diagnosis). The main character of the story was born with ‘Manglik’ cosmic influencer, meaning that the planet Mars “mangal Graha” was in such position in the solar system at the time of her birth that it would have strong negative effect on her husband if she married a man who was non-Manlik (a person born at the time when the planet Mars was not in such position.) What happens next changes the lives of the main characters.
