Summary : How do we know the Bible is God’s Word? What is sin and where did it come from? How is Jesus fully God and fully man? What are spiritual gifts? When and how will Christ return? If you’ve asked questions like these, then "systematic theology" is no abstract term. It’s an approach to finding answers every Christian needs to know. Bible Doctrine takes a highly commended upper-level textbook on systematic theology and makes it accessible to the average reader. Abridged from Wayne Grudem’s award-winning Systematic Theology, Bible Doctrine covers the same essentials of the faith, giving you a firm grasp on seven key topics: The Doctrine of the Word of God The Doctrine of God The Doctrine of Man The Doctrine of Christ The Doctrine of the Application of Redemption The Doctrine of the Church The Doctrine of the Future Like Systematic Theology, this book is marked by its clarity, its strong scriptural emphasis, its thoroughness in scope and detail, and its treatment of such timely topics as spiritual warfare and the gifts of the Spirit. But you don’t need to have had several years of Bible school to reap the full benefits of Bible Doctrine. It’s easy to understand--and it’s packed with solid, biblical answers to your most important questions.

Summary : Upon the answers which thinkers give to the question What is Man? depend on the answers they give to every other question--hence the importance of this matter in the world's life and future. Much that is current in theological discussion centers in the same inquiry. It is evident that the Christian must know what the Bible says: and Dr. Ryder Smith is supremely qualified to expound the Bible teaching. The author finds that the Doctrine of Man is implied rather than stated in Holy Writ: he has made it his task to draw out the doctrine, largely by examining the meaning of the Hebrew and Greek terms. He has included a treatment of the Septuagint, because the New Testament usually starts with the Septuagintal use. There is special treatment of the important phrase The Image of God, so frequently encountered in current theological discussion. this is the more advantageous because, Dr. Ryder Smith maintains, the usage has changed since the days of the Bible writers. There are chapters on What ought a man to be? as well as on What is a man?-- and to the writer the former question is the more important. This book, which seeks to put in its right perspective the whole question of the Biblical doctrine of Man, will take its place as the classical and fundamental treatment of this doctrine.

Summary : The series of works by Dr. Ryder Smith on various Bible doctrines is well known and widely used. Shortly before his death he completed the typescript of the last of them,The Bible Doctrine of the Hereafter, a volume which in its general approach resembles its predecessors and in its qualities of careful scholarship and balanced judgment is worthy of a place beside them. What does the Bible say about the future of mankind and of the individual? the question cannot be adequately answered in simple terms; and to Understand The wide range of Biblical teaching it is necessary to go outside the Bible To The vitally important literature of the inter-testamental period. Dr. Ryder Smith surveys the evidence of the Old and New Testaments And The Apocrypha; and in his discussion of New Testament teaching he takes account of the extracanonical Apocalyptic literature, showing both the historical background And The distinctive character of the New Testament message. This is a substantial work, which will be of great value To The serious student.

Summary : Excerpt from The Bible Doctrine of Atonement: Six Lectures Given in Westminster Abbey The investigation Will be found to exhibit one frequent principle of revelation - that a spiritual idea is first given to mankind in a very simple and, perhaps, a material shape then, as religious insight quickens, it is challenged and discussed and repudiated, and, in consequence, this and that part of it is spiritualised and lifted to a higher plane, until at last the old idea is re established, only not in its first material form, but in a form altogether spiritual. We shall find this principle illustrated in regard to certain great ideas Which underlie the doctrine of Atone ment. The first is the solidarity of mankind. Summary : In this volume Dr. Ryder Smith continues his series of studies in great Bible doctrines. Its main subject is Grace, and he examines afresh the meaning and use of such terms as chesed in the Old Testament and charis in the New, not forgetting the Septuagint. But there are chapters also on doctrines closely related to Grace, under such titles as "Trial, Temptation and Discipline," "Election," and "The Fellowship of God with Man in Christ." In his chapters on "Righteousness in Sinners" and "Sin in Believers" he maintains that the full Christian doctrine is nowhere drawn out in the New Testament, but that it may be deduced from scattered references. In his discussion of "Sin in Believers" he claims that Paul taught what some may consider a heresy, namely, that in what may be called "conversion baptism" a believer was wholly cleansed from sin. In many ways this volume is complementary to Dr. Smith's last volume, The Bible Doctrine of Sin, and like all his work it is the fruit of sound knowledge, deep scholarship, and penetrating insight.
