Summary : Jake: Katie Higgins was the first girl I ever loved. We spent one summer together at Lake Fisher when we were sixteen and then I never saw her again. My life is shit, my job is gone, and my dad had a stroke, so I find myself back at Lake Fisher once again. And so does Katie. Her last name isn't Higgins anymore, because Katie is married with three kids and one more on the way, but when she shows up at Lake Fisher with her kids, danger trails her all the way there. I could do a lot of things. I could leave and go home. I could stay and deal with it. But what I want most of all is just to take care of Katie. If I concentrate on her, maybe I won't have to face my own problems. Yeah, that's it. Fix Katie. Katie: I haven't seen Jake in eighteen years, but the moment I lay eyes on him, I feel safer than I have in a very long time. Memories swamp me every time I look out over the clear, cool water. A first kiss. A first boyfriend. A first love. That old spark is still there. I just can't act on it, and neither can Jake. Our story started eighteen years ago, and then we both made lives with other people. Jake is willing to tell me about his, but I can't share mine with him. Ever. We can be friends and spend another summer together, right? Sure, we can.

Summary : Dear Reader, My name is Aaron Thompson and, while I might be an important part of this story, this story isn’t mine. It’s my best friend Bess’s story, and I was just lucky enough to be part of it. Bess met her husband Eli when we were still kids, they fell in love, they got married, and then their marriage fell apart. They hate one another now, and they can barely be in the same room together for more than five minutes without Bess wanting to scratch Eli’s eyes out. Before they can finalize the divorce, however, they have to clean out the old cabin at Lake Fisher, so they can sell it. You see, this is where I come into the story, mainly because the safety and care of three precious little beings rests on whether or not they can find their way back together. I won’t ask them to pretend like they’re in love; it’s obvious how much disdain they have for one another. All I ask is that they give me one more summer. I do have my own reasons for wanting to help them, which I will explain in more detail. But right now, just know that Bess and Eli’s story is an important one, and that I was honored to play a part in it. Best regards, Aaron

Summary : "Auras, Chakras, and Energy Fields: What They Are To You and How Your Angels and Guides Work Through Them" is a quick-read. British vs. American spelling, grammar, and punctuation are used in this book. Physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health are all reflected in your aura. The colors that you wear most of the time can alter the colors in your aura. Wearing bright colors that are the same colors as your chakras is healthful to your chakras and to your aura. Colors reflected onto the physical body can help to strengthen your aura. Like those that are reflected by the sunlight through stained glass windows in a church, synagogue, or temple. Your aura and chakras are subtle energies that your angels and guides work through to help you and to guide you on many different levels. Eating foods that are the color of certain chakras will help to strengthen that chakra and your aura. This is Sylvia Lavey's second book. Her first book, "Synchronicity," was published in November, 2006, and her third book, "Angels," was published in October, 2008.

It’s summertime on the North Carolina coast and the livin’ is easy. Unless, that is, you’ve just lost your mother to cancer, your sister to her extremist husband, and your husband to his executive assistant. Meet Gray Howard. Right when Gray could use a serious infusion of good karma in her life, she inadvertently gets a stranger, Diana Harrington, fired from her job at the local pharmacy. Diana Harrington’s summer isn’t off to the greatest start either: Hours before losing her job, she broke up with her boyfriend and moved out of their shared house with only a worn-out Impala for a bed. Lucky for her, Gray has an empty guest house and a very guilty conscience. With Gray’s kindness, Diana’s tide begins to turn. But when her first love returns, every secret from her past seems to resurface all at once. And, as Gray begins to blaze a new trail, she discovers, with Diana’s help, that what she envisioned as her perfect life may not be what she wants at all. In her warmest, wisest novel yet, Kristy Woodson Harvey delivers a discerning portrait of modern womanhood through two vastly different lenses. Feels Like Falling is a beach bag essential for Harvey fans—and for a new generation of readers.

Summary : Robert C. Vallieres struggled to find his ônew normalö when he returned home after serving in the military. An accident in Kuwait left him suffering from traumatic brain injury (TBI) internal injuries, leaving him in constant pain. After clinics, bottles of painkillers, and behavior modification pills, hope seemed to vanish. Then a local weekly newspaper ad caught his eye: a bird-watching trip to see raptors in the mountains of New Hampshire. An Emily Dickinson poem that states, ôHope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul, and sings the tuneùwithout the words, and never stops at all,ö sprang to his mind. Wounded Warriors is VallieresÆs story of self-healing from crippling ôinvisibleö wounds through the help of birds. The problems of TBI and post-traumatic stress disorder do not have definitive solutions. His story of recovery offers a winged hope to thousands of military personnel who suffer these physical and mental battles.

Summary : Sometimes Like Dimes: Life and Life Lessons in the Steel City is about Thom Slofer, and chronicles his experiences growing up and becoming older in the Hill District neighborhood of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, USA. The story begins in September of 1985 and culminates in Atlanta Georgia in 1997. During this time period the people, life passages, and the changing surroundings are described as they affect him. The Hill was once a thriving inner-city neighborhood. World-famous jazz musicians once played in the ballrooms and jazz clubs nightly; the Hill District was to Pittsburgh what Harlem is to New York City. Hard economic times before and after the 1980’s hit the once economically thriving black community at the foot of downtown Pittsburgh hard. The Hill was now nothing more than a snapshot of economic demise. The successes and setbacks through his high school years and into his young adult life are chronicled. Older women he became involved with showed him another way to be despite peer and neighborhood influences. He graduates high school to attend college but drops out and obtains a reasonable job; but the streets and thier infuences are present. He becomes a part-time bartender then begins to carry a gun before loosing his job and succumbing to low self-esteem. He’s then forced to survive on the streets but refuses to take part in any crime. He rises above and eventually beyond the streets, but the lessons "street life" taught stayed within him. His views of life and relationships begin to change and street life looses its luster. Thom finds a good job and returns to school. He first finds difficulty in merely trying to attend then more difficulty when he does. Thom makes his way through school to graduate and attemps to seeks a new life in Atlanta Georgia. Sometimes Like Dimes: Life and Life Lessons in the Steel City not only demonstrates that if every man were to write a book about his experiences every story would be unique; but is also a lens to view what it was like to live life in Southwestern Pennsylvania, USA.

Summary : With hardly any previous veg-growing experience and even less time, when Gardener's World design guru Joe Swift decided to take on a 250 sq metre allotment in north London, some people thought he was mad. But with hard work and dedication, in less than a year Joe created his very own urban oasis and a source of delicious, fresh, organic produce for himself and his family. In this book Joe takes us through every stage of his education as an allotment gardener, from putting his name on the council waiting list to harvesting his first crops. He reveals everything he's learned about acquiring a plot, clearing the site, planning the beds, and planting, nurturing and protecting his fruit and vegetables. All the techniques he has mastered are described and illustrated, step by step. Joe also introduces us to his Veg Heroes like Monty Don and Geoff Hamilton - fellow plot-holders with years of experience and the crops to show for it - who inspired Joe to take up veg growing in the first place. And he shares with us his enjoyment of allotment gardening, the combination of hard work, fresh air and a sense of community that makes his plot such a special place to be. Whether you are an established allotment gardener or are thinking of putting your name down for a plot, Joe's Allotment will provide you with a wealth of advice and inspiration.
