Summary : In Fly on the Wall, a moving and hilarious diary-style illustrated novel from the award-winning author of Pie in the Sky, a twelve-year-old boy goes on a (forbidden) solo adventure halfway around the world to prove his independence to his overprotective family. Henry Khoo's family treats him like a baby. He’s not allowed to go anywhere without his sister/chaperone/bodyguard. And he definitely CAN’T take a journey halfway around the world all by himself! But that’s exactly his plan. After his family’s annual trip to visit his father in Singapore is cancelled, Henry decides he doesn’t want to be cooped up at home with his overprotective family and BFF turned NRFF (Not Really Friend Forever). Plus, he’s hiding a your-life-is-over-if-you’re-caught secret: he’s the creator of an anonymous gossip cartoon, and he's on the verge of getting caught. Determined to prove his independence and avoid punishment for his crimes, Henry embarks on the greatest adventure everrr. . . hoping it won’t turn into the greatest disaster ever. Remy Lai takes readers on an adventure filled with humor, heart, and hijinks that’s a sure bet for fans of Jerry Craft, Terri Libenson, and Shannon Hale! “Funny, enthralling, and a great reminder that being a little odd isn’t a bad thing.” —Kayla Miller, author of Click and Camp * "Near-misses and laugh-out-loud moments abound, which will endear it to readers who like 'Big Nate' and 'Wimpy Kid.'" —School Library Journal, starred review

Summary : "I think this might be the best YA novel . . . I've ever read." —John Green From E. Lockhart, author of We Were Liars—the New York Times bestselling phenomenon—and the uproarious and heartwarming Ruby Oliver books, comes a fast-paced and hysterically funny novel that answers the question: What would it be like to be a fly on the wall in the boy's locker room? At the Manhattan School for Art and Music, where everyone is “different” and everyone is “special,” Gretchen Yee feels ordinary. She’s the kind of girl who sits alone at lunch, drawing pictures of Spider-Man, so she won’t have to talk to anyone; who has a crush on Titus but won’t do anything about it; who has no one to hang out with when her best (and only real) friend Katya is busy. One day, Gretchen wishes that she could be a fly on the wall in the boys’ locker room–just to learn more about guys. What are they really like? What do they really talk about? Are they really cretins most of the time? Fly on the Wall is the story of how that wish comes true.

Meet Jacques Berradi. Moroccan-born and Manhattan-raised, his genuine, sexy-smooth allure goes hand in hand with a unique gift. Since Jacques was young, he has had the ability to read peoples’ energies, communicate with spirit guides, and even catch glimpses of people’s futures. Now a professional “intuitive counselor,” Jacques’s clients pay him handsomely for his insight. Unfortunately, Jacques’s psychic abilities don’t come with an off switch to tune out the world’s noise, nor do they always provide him with easy answers; recently Jacques has begun having dark, alarming dreams about his beloved father, a Moroccan immigrant who died when he was a boy. Meet Kylie Collins, an adventurous, Miami twentysomething who is trying to find her footing after being laid off from a cushy music industry job. When a mishap brings them together, Kylie is instantly mesmerized by Jacques’s cool demeanor and intuitive abilities, and he’s captivated by her outgoing charm and breezy good looks. Seeking to learn more about her family history—including the identity of the father she’s never known—Kylie visits Jacques’s office to gain some insight about her future, and about her free-spirited and headstrong Jamaican mother, True. But on the night that they meet, a rolling blackout cuts off power throughout Miami. Kylie and Jacques, and a few of his clients, head to the only place in the neighborhood with enough light to see: Like a Fly on the Wall Detective Agency. There, Kylie serendipitously lands herself the perfect new job as an apprentice private eye. As partners, Jacques and Kylie are an unstoppable duo. Can Jacques’s intuition reveal the scandalous history of Kylie’s mother and father? Will Kylie’s newfound detective skills uncover evidence about the death of Jacques’s father? And will the chemistry that charges their friendship bubble over into something much, much hotter…?

Summary : Fly on The Wall is beyond cutting edge. The Technological background of the book is already causing a Paradigm Shift in this country’s’ defense systems. This What if? Scenario makes any reader shudder at the possibilities. No longer, can this be considered Science Fiction. It exists today, on a scale of which the magnitude of its affect is incalculable. As we speak, the world is being altered at Light speed. Until now, no one has chronicled a fictional story around it. Fly on The Wall is as groundbreaking as Orson Wells “War of the Worlds” was to our Great Grand Parents with one major difference: The assumptions are not fiction. They are fact. In the hands of a genius with no moral compass to guide him, the outcome spells catastrophe. The reader is taken on a journey with more twists and turns than a clothes dryer.

Summary : This is the only hockey book ever written from the perspective of a professional ice skate salesman. Dan Bryndle traveled and worked in the professional hockey dressing rooms fitting pro players in the NHL. The time period this book refers to is from 1972 through 1983 and covers some of the NHL’s biggest names and greatest coaches of the time. The title of the book was formed from a conversation with a coach in the American Hockey League. The team was Adirondack Red Wings in Saratoga, New York, the farm club of the Detroit Red Wings at the time. A player on the NHL Buffalo Sabres that was known for his physical style, and enforcer role as a defense man, announced he would play the game in a mild manner. He no longer wanted to be fighting or known for his physical play. The source of this change in attitude was his new religious view on life. The Adirondack coach said to me upon news of the announcement, “I’d like to be a Fly on the Wall in that dressing room. Scottie Bowman will never put up with that he continued.” With that said I realized I was a fly on the wall in his dressing room, thus the title of this book. This book tells the personal story of a hockey life of skate sales and traveling to teams to fit the skates. It shows and talks about moments in time that changed teams fortunes, like the very first time Mike Bossy of the New York Islanders came to practice as a rookie. Or the insight of Mike Keenan as a young coach and how he motivated one of the games greats to help his team win. Written in 1994’ the book is also a tribute as well, to a family and their personal struggle with a tragedy. At it’s best this is a community book, about ice hockey, and how it affects lives, and championships.

When Hurricane Charley whacks Punta Gorda upside the head and wealthy John Catlett is found dead in his penthouse condo, it looks like an accident. But Fly isn't so sure. With Fly and Jinx busting each other's chops and battling it out to narrate the story, Fly has an existential crisis. Turns out life is made up of shades of gray...even when driving a black-and-white. With a jigger of Carl Hiaasen, a snort of Robert Crais, and perhaps a shot or two of Jimmy Buffett, Fly on the Wall is a fun Florida mystery. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll run to make sure your homeowner's insurance premium is paid.

Summary : A poignant, laugh-out-loud illustrated middle-grade novel about an eleven-year-old boy's immigration experience, his annoying little brother, and their cake-baking hijinks! "Pie in the Sky is like enjoying a decadent cake . . . heartwarming and rib-tickling." —Terri Libenson, bestselling author of Invisible Emmie Sometimes life isn't a piece of cake . . . When Jingwen moves to a new country, he feels like he’s landed on Mars. School is torture, making friends is impossible since he doesn’t speak English, and he's often stuck looking after his (extremely irritating) little brother, Yanghao. To distract himself from the loneliness, Jingwen daydreams about making all the cakes on the menu of Pie in the Sky, the bakery his father had planned to open before he unexpectedly passed away. The only problem is his mother has laid down one major rule: the brothers are not to use the oven while she's at work. As Jingwen and Yanghao bake elaborate cakes, they'll have to cook up elaborate excuses to keep the cake making a secret from Mama. In her hilarious, moving middle-grade debut, Remy Lai delivers a scrumptious combination of vibrant graphic art and pitch-perfect writing that will appeal to fans of Shannon Hale and LeUyen Pham's Real Friends, Kelly Yang's Front Desk, and Jerry Craft's New Kid. A Junior Library Guild selection! * "Like salted caramel, a perfect balance of flavors, this deftly drawn story is a heartfelt treat." —Kirkus Reviews, STARRED review "Seamlessly mixes together equal parts of humor, loss, identity, discovery, and love to create a delicious concoction of a story. . . illustrated beautifully with Lai's insightful drawings." —Veera Hiranandani, Newbery Honor-winning author of The Night Diary

Summary : A visual feast of over 500 photographs offering an insider peek into the Grateful Dead scene from the mid-eighties on. San Francisco photographer Susana Millman shares her experience as A Fly on the Wall with a Camera around the Grateful Dead scene from the mid '80s onward as she became part of the Grateful Dead family and developed her skills as a documentary and performance photographer. Alive begins with Susana's friendship with Jerry Garcia, who was a matchmaker in her 1985 marriage to Grateful Dead publicist and biographer Dennis McNally and even walked her down the aisle. The photos are largely from Garcia's years with the band in the '80s and '9's and demonstrate Millman's warm, intimate style and unique access to happenings onstage, offstage and backstage. The book is written as a series of vignettes in time and place, with funny personal anecdotes from Millman and McNally adding breadth to descriptions of the complex mini-universe (fans, family, crew, technicans for sound and lights, the intimate friends who made up the extended family) that was the Grateful Dead.

Summary : These transcripts document two years of the Richard Nixon presidency and take you directly inside the White House: “A treasure trove” (The Boston Globe). These are the famous—and infamous—Nixon White House tapes that reveal for the first time President Richard Milhous Nixon uncensored, unfiltered, and in his own words. President Nixon’s voice-activated taping system captured every word spoken in the Oval Office, Cabinet Room, other key locations in the White House, and at Camp David—3,700 hours of recordings between 1971 and 1973. Yet less than five percent of those conversations have ever been transcribed and published. Now, thanks to historian Luke Nichter’s massive effort to digitize and transcribe the tapes, the world can finally read an unprecedented account of one of the most important and controversial presidencies in US history. This volume of The Nixon Tapes offers a selection of fascinating scenes from the period in which Nixon opened relations with China, negotiated the SALT I arms agreement with the Soviet Union, and won a landslide reelection victory. All the while, the growing shadow of Watergate and Nixon’s political downfall crept ever closer. The Nixon Tapes provides a never-before-seen glimpse into a flawed president’s hubris, paranoia, and political genius—“essential for students of the era and fascinating for those who lived it” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review).
