Summary : Abstract : Purpose: Graphene, which has abundant availability in nature, is currently under research for its functional applications in the field of textiles. The sp 2 Hybridized 1-atom-thick planar sheet has been under consideration for its unique electrical, mechanical and thermal properties, but there exists a void for aggregated data on the findings of other co-functional properties attained by the material using graphene oxide (GO) finish. This paper aims to define the techniques of extraction of GO, method of its application on textile material followed by detailed evaluation of the differential functional properties achieved. Design/methodology/approach: The methodology used to explain the multiple functionalities of GO finish have been carried out by starting with the chemistry of graphene and the isolation of GO from graphite, followed by the techniques for its application on the textile along with the study on the induced functional properties that may aid to increase its potential applications. Findings: It has been observed that with the aid of optimization of GO finish, the finish in lieu with the conductive potentialities may further provide with many essential properties such as hydrophobicity, ultraviolet protection and antibacterial property. Originality/value: The field of research on GO finish is naive and except few properties, many functionalities are still unexplored that may enable its smooth production, handling and expanding its area of application. The agglomeration of scattered findings on the achievable functional properties of GO on various textiles has been achieved in this paper.

Summary : With the public enhanced awareness towards eco-preservation, eco-safety and health concerns, environmentally benign, nontoxic and sustainable bioresource materials produced mainly from non-food crops have revolutionized all industrial sectors particularly textile industry. In recent years, textile industries in developed countries are getting increasing interest in global interest due to the varied and changing world market conditions in terms of price, durability and fiber mixtures as well as design, colors, weight, ease of handling and product safety. The increasing environmental and health concerns owing to the use of large quantities of water and hazardous chemicals in conventional textile finishing processes lead to the design and development of new dyeing strategies and technologies. Effluents produced from these textiles wet processing industries are very diverse in chemical composition, ranging from inorganic finishing agents, surfactants, chlorine compounds, salts, total phosphate to polymers and organic products. This aspect forced western countries to exploit their high technical skills in the advancements of textile materials for high quality technical performances, and development of cleaner production technologies for cost effective and value-added textile materials. Therefore, vast and effective research investigations have been undertaken all over the world to minimize the negative environmental impact of synthetic chemical agents through the sustainable harvest of eco-friendly bioresource materials. The book will discuss following research developments in academic and industry: Improvement in dye extraction and its applications Impact of textile dyeing on environment Textile finishing by natural and ecofriendly means Natural dyes as environmental-friendly bioresource products Textile effluent remediation via physical, chemical and biological processes.

Summary : During the past fifteen years commercial interest in compounds containing carbon fluorine bonds has burgeoned beyond all expectations, mainly owing to business opportunities arising from work on biologically active fluoroorganics-particularly agrochemicals, the relentless search for new markets for fluoropolymers and fluoro carbon fluids, developments in the field of medical diagnostics, and the drive to find replacements for ozone-depleting CFCs and Halon fire-extinguishing agents. Judging the situation to warrant the publication of a comprehensive collection of up-to-date reviews dealing with commercial organofluorine compounds within a single volume of manageable size (and hence reasonable cost), we were delighted to be invited by Plenum Publishing Corporation to produce a suitable book. In order to provide an authentic and wide-ranging account of current commercial applications of fluoroorganic materials, it clearly was necessary to assemble a sizeable team of knowledgeable contributing authors selected almost entirely from industry. Through their efforts we have been able to produce an almost complete coverage of the modem organofluorochemicals business in a manner designed to attract a reader ship ranging from experts in the field, through chemists and technologists currently unaware of the extent of industrial involvement with fluoroorganics, to students of applied chemistry. Promised chapters dedicated to perfluoroolefin oxides and 18F labeling of radiopharmaceuticals failed to materialize. This is somewhat unfortunate in view of our aim to achieve comprehensive coverage of the subject.
