Summary : As the host of one of National Public Radio’s most popular interview programs, Michael Krasny has spent decades leading conversations on every imaginable topic and discussing life’s most important questions with the foremost thinkers of our time. Now he brings his wide-ranging knowledge and perceptive intelligence to a thoughtful and thought-provoking exploration of belief; and lack of belief. Many books and pundits advocate for a specific God, while others adamantly declare there is no God. Yet these strident viewpoints often speak right past each other, rarely convincing anyone but the already convinced. In — Spiritual Envy — Krasny helps believers and nonbelievers alike understand their own questions about faith and religion, about God and human responsibility. Krasny challenges each of us to look closely at faith and its power, and to examine the positive and negative aspects of religion as expressed in culture, literature, and human relationships. Personal and universal, timely and timeless, this is a deeply wise yet warmly welcoming conversation, an invitation to ask one’s own questions; no matter how inconclusive the answers.

Summary : The renowned Christian preacher and New York Times bestselling author of An Altar in the World recounts her moving discoveries of finding the sacred in unexpected places while teaching world religions to undergraduates in Baptist-saturated rural Georgia, revealing how God delights in confounding our expectations. Christians are taught that God is everywhere--a tenet that is central to Barbara Brown Taylor's life and faith. In Holy Envy, she continues her spiritual journey, contemplating the myriad ways she encountered God while exploring other faiths with her students in the classroom, and on field trips to diverse places of worship. Both she and her students ponder how the knowledge and insights they have gained raise important questions about belief, and explore how different practices relate to their own faith. Inspired by this intellectual and spiritual quest, Barbara turns once again to the Bible for guidance, to see what secrets lay buried there. Throughout Holy Envy, Barbara weaves together stories from her classroom with reflections on how her own spiritual journey has been challenged and renewed by connecting with people of other traditions--and by meeting God in them. At the heart of her odyssey is her trust that it is God who pushes her beyond her comfortable boundaries and calls us to "disown" our privatised versions of the divine--a change that ultimately deepens her relationship with both the world and with God, and ours.

Summary : Religions come in predetermined packages. They come with an approved name for the creator of existence, the name of their superstar, their all-star team, their approved beliefs, songs, and, in some cases, dress codes and dietary requirements. In A Guide for Spiritual Living, author Rev. George L. McLaird presents a wide variety of alternatives if you are uncomfortable with or frustrated by your present religious experience or spiritual condition, or if you have no idea where to begin searching for your own personal spiritual path. A Guide for Spiritual Living offers a plethora of suggestions for living spiritually-living as healthily as possible, every day and in every way. It includes ideas for activities, contemplation, and self-nourishment, as well as advice for addicts to feed the spirit, mind, and body and exercises to help clarify your path. Advocating a holistic approach, McLaird teaches that spiritual living requires flexibility-growing, morphing, and constantly being revised, refreshed and reinvented. He helps you structure a spiritual path that is uniquely yours by showing you how to listen to your own internal dialogue and how to use that information for your growth. George is a spiritual guru of the highest order. People want what he's got and this book provides a roadmap for how to get it - a more spiritual, fulfilling, balanced and happy life. I'll be recommending it to anyone and everyone who will listen! William Morrison, Founder, CEO, Alta Mira Recovery Center, Sausalito, CA. www.altamirarecovery.com Many people are served by religious belief/practice. Others are either indifferent or have felt harmed by religion. George's workbook transcends either experience, by creating a workbook for spiritual seeking that can deepen one's religious practice or blazes a new trail for spiritual awakening.
