Summary : Stacey Dash didn't have the ideal American childhood. Growing up in the South Bronx, her friends were the hustlers, hookers, and gang members who struggled in the face of futility, who sold drugs instead of living on food stamps, who settled matters with fists, knives, and guns because it seemed their only option, who stood tall against broken dreams. Dash's rough upbringing shaped the rest of her life—her relationships, her politics, even her faith. She has seen how conservative and liberal policies play out in the real world, and her experiences have made her the proud conservative she is today. That's why Stacey Dash, a Fox News contributor and Hollywood actress best known for starring in the 1995 classic Clueless, is now telling her story. Amidst all the heated racial rhetoric and the divisive language that flows from T.V., the Internet, self-appointed black spokespeople, and even President Obama, Dash feels compelled to speak out and say something true about race, politics, and America.

Summary : During the civil rights movement, epic battles for justice were fought in the streets, at lunch counters, and in the classrooms of the American South. Just as many battles were waged, however, in the hearts and minds of ordinary white southerners whose world became unrecognizable to them. Jason Sokol’s vivid and unprecedented account of white southerners’ attitudes and actions, related in their own words, reveals in a new light the contradictory mixture of stubborn resistance and pragmatic acceptance–as well as the startling and unexpected personal transformations–with which they greeted the enforcement of legal equality. I knew that corridor like the back of my hand, so I followed suit twisting and turning so fast that the only thing I could hear were my breaths. Summary : Throughout this book that I was writing I thought of so many people that I was introduce during my journey with the battle of kidney disease. I thought about all the nurses and patients that gave their sacrifi ce to keep going and do their job. Far as the nurses goes I know they gave a lot of commitment to see that everyone kept their spirits up and made sure everyone was comfortable and safe. Each day they greeted you with a smile and made sure you follow the guideline that was stated to you and them. The patients handled the situation the best they could and we always tried to get along with each other and the staff. We were always somewhat entertained and acknowledge of what was going on with our surroundings and us in the facility. This was especially noted when there was once in a while a storm or maybe a power failure. We all worked together to make sure everything still went as planned for everyone. Thus, what I expect from each one of you that reads my book is think of the book being helpful and aware of how things are for some kidney patients. I expect all kinds of emotions before and after you have read this book. I also expect if I can at least reach one of ten people know that life has its ups and downs on all parts of life. Far as something about me goes I never gave up one any situation that I had to overcome and that I always kept laughter in my heart and the people around me kept my spirits up with laughter and joy so that I did not always think about my predicament.

Summary : An in-depth look at America's changing gay neighborhoods Gay neighborhoods, like the legendary Castro District in San Francisco and New York's Greenwich Village, have long provided sexual minorities with safe havens in an often unsafe world. But as our society increasingly accepts gays and lesbians into the mainstream, are "gayborhoods" destined to disappear? Amin Ghaziani provides an incisive look at the origins of these unique cultural enclaves, the reasons why they are changing today, and their prospects for the future. Drawing on a wealth of evidence—including census data, opinion polls, hundreds of newspaper reports from across the United States, and more than one hundred original interviews with residents in Chicago, one of the most paradigmatic cities in America—There Goes the Gayborhood? argues that political gains and societal acceptance are allowing gays and lesbians to imagine expansive possibilities for a life beyond the gayborhood. The dawn of a new post-gay era is altering the character and composition of existing enclaves across the country, but the spirit of integration can coexist alongside the celebration of differences in subtle and sometimes surprising ways. Exploring the intimate relationship between sexuality and the city, this cutting-edge book reveals how gayborhoods, like the cities that surround them, are organic and continually evolving places. Gayborhoods have nurtured sexual minorities throughout the twentieth century and, despite the unstoppable forces of flux, will remain resonant and revelatory features of urban life.
